The third floor holds many of the semi-private functions of the hostel, such as the kitchen, dining rooms, and library space.  By having this floor glass enclosed it allows the second and fourth floor bedrooms to read as separate objects floating in space.  Furthermore, it allows for panoramic views above the brick shell.
Because of its location within Pittsburgh, there is a watch tower that doubles as the main
circulation for the hostel.  From the top of this tower, occupants could view the Pittsburgh
skyline and the surrounding valley.
